Michael J. "Mac" McAuley Jr.


In early 1955, Michael J. "Mac" McAuley Jr. combined two of his passions, Jeeping and web design, to bring Mac's Jeep Page to the world, a place to meet new friends, share pictures, and just have a good time sharing an excellent hobby. In 1996, Mac recieved sponsership from Turner 4WD Parts and Dirt Road Magazine was created, and evolved into the site we all new and loved.


Michael J. "Mac" McAuley, Jr. died on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, in Lubbock, TX. He was 45.
Mac was born on October 12, 1966, in Garden Grove, CA. He joined the Army as a high school sophomore and served 7 years in the US Army as a combat medic & radiographer. In May 1986, Michael married Jacqueline Larsen of Blaine, WA. Following seperation from the Army, he created Dirt Road Magazine for Jeep enthusiasts.
Mac is survived by his wife, an active duty RN at JBLM in WA, and 3 children, Thomas (18), Sarah (21), and Michael III (23). Other survivors include his father and mother, Michael and Susan McAuley of Palm Springs, CA; Mother, Susan Zamaria of Mt. Vernon, WA. Four sisters, Michele and family, Lisa, Julie and husband, Katie, and numerous extended family members.
Mac was an absolute technology nut (His translation: Geek). He loved all sorts of gadgets, from odd bbatteries to robotics, iPods and UAVs. He taught himself and worked closely with computers throughout his entire life and career. As a hobby, he was a survivalist and interested in solar power and other renewable energy sources. Jeeping offerred him peace, serenity, and the chance to get away from "it all" for camping, hiking, photograohy, living off the land, testing new products, "and of course, spending time with my family - we do everything together".
